Stephen Slesinger Inc., which owns the merchandising rights to the characters and traces its stake to the 1930 agreement with Pooh creator A.A. Milne, is seeking to cancel the U.S. trademarks of 25 Pooh-related names obtained by Disney since 1996. According to Slesinger Disney was not the owner of the registered marks at the time that these filings were made. The petition before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is the latest in a 16-year legal battle over the rights to Winnie the Pooh. February 7, 2007 | Bloomberg.com EarthLink Faces USD 20 Million Patent-Infringement Claim EarthLink Inc., the U.S.'s fourth-biggest Internet-service provider, should be ordered to pay at least USD 20 million in damages for infringing three patents. Inline Connection Corp. sued EarthLink in 2002 over patents awarded since 1998 on digital-subscriber lines that speed up Internet downloads for telephone customers. According a lawyer for Inline EarthLink has used this patents for years and refuses to pay him a nickel. He said the damage request was equal to 25 percent of EarthLink's savings from use of the patented technology.
